Buy a traceable supply relationship, not just a low unit price
Korean skincare wholesale in India is a commercial and compliance decision. A catalogue image and an attractive quote do not establish that a product is properly imported, available for repeat supply or suitable for your customers. Before committing, identify the legal seller, the exact product variants, the India import trail, the price basis and what happens if stock arrives damaged or near expiry.
This guide is a buyer checklist, not a legal opinion or a claim that a named supplier is authorized. Rules and documents can change; confirm current requirements with CDSCO, the Department of Consumer Affairs and qualified advisers for your specific transaction. The consumer importer-label guide explains what an end buyer can inspect on a pack.
Separate three questions that often get mixed up
First, is the product genuine? Check the seller's identity, invoice, batch and source chain. Second, has the product been imported and labeled in line with Indian requirements? The Cosmetics Rules, 2020 and CDSCO's current guidance address import registration and related requirements. Third, is the seller commercially authorized by the Korean brand? Brand authorization is a separate relationship. A product may have a lawful import path without being part of a brand's preferred distributor network, and a verbal claim of brand authorization does not replace regulatory checks. Read our authorized versus parallel import guide and seller verification guide.
Documents and details to request
Ask for the supplier's legal name, address, tax and contact details on the quotation and invoice. Request the product list with exact brand, product name, size, shade or variant, country of origin, batch information and shelf-life position. Ask who the importer of record is and which current registration or import documentation applies to the exact products. Do not assume that a certificate for one product, pack size or manufacturing site covers every variant.
Request photographs of the actual India-facing pack and label, not only a Korean marketing image. Check the manufacturer/importer information, MRP and other applicable declarations against current CDSCO and Legal Metrology guidance. If you need legal certainty, have the documentation reviewed by a professional familiar with cosmetic imports. The official CDSCO cosmetics resource page and the Cosmetics Rules are more authoritative than a supplier's sales deck.
Understand MOQ before comparing quotes
MOQ means minimum order quantity, but suppliers use it differently. It can apply per SKU, per brand, per order, per case or to the total invoice value. Ask for the exact unit of measure. A “low MOQ” quote may still require multiple cartons of each variant. Confirm whether testers, samples and mixed-SKU cartons count toward the minimum.
The cheapest unit price may require a quantity that leaves too much inventory or too little shelf life. Build a simple sell-through estimate from your own store or channel data. Avoid assuming a trending product will move at a rate you have never measured.
Calculate landed and sellable cost
Compare the price on the same basis: per unit, before or after applicable tax, at a stated delivery point, and for a specified pack size. Add freight, insurance, taxes or duties where applicable, marketplace or payment charges, storage, damaged units and expected returns. Do not invent a universal margin for Korean skincare; your true margin depends on the quote, channel and sell-through.
Ask whether the supplier's quote includes India import and labeling work or whether those responsibilities sit with you. Confirm payment terms, currency, credit period, price validity and the process for changes in exchange rates or duties. A low ex-warehouse quote and a delivered quote are not directly comparable.
Twelve questions to ask a supplier
- What is your legal entity, business address and invoicing name?
- Are you the importer, an authorized distributor, a reseller or another type of supplier? What evidence supports that description?
- Which exact products, sizes and variants are in stock now, and which are only projected?
- What import registration and product-specific documentation can you provide for the quoted items?
- Can you show the India-facing label and the actual batch or expiry position before dispatch?
- What is the MOQ per SKU, per carton, per brand and per purchase order?
- Is the quote per unit, inclusive or exclusive of tax, and valid until what date?
- Who pays for freight, insurance, breakage and any return shipment?
- What are the payment, credit and cancellation terms?
- How will shortages, damaged stock and near-expiry stock be handled and documented?
- Can you supply the same products repeatedly, and what is the realistic replenishment lead time?
- Are product images, descriptions and brand marks licensed for our retail use, and who approves claims in marketing copy?
Get the answers in writing. A supplier who cannot identify the exact item, batch context and seller entity is hard to assess, however attractive the price appears.
Operational checks after the first order
Match delivered units to the purchase order and invoice. Record batch and expiry information, count damaged cartons, photograph discrepancies and raise them within the agreed claim window. Store products according to manufacturer directions. Verify that staff understand what can and cannot be said about efficacy, authorization and India availability. Avoid copying an overseas product page that makes claims unsupported for the Indian pack.
Start with a controlled assortment you can audit. A small successful order provides better information than a large unverified commitment. If a product page on your own site is missing facts, mark them as being verified rather than filling gaps with assumptions.
Next step
If you are evaluating Korean beauty supply for an Indian retail business, use the wholesale enquiry page to describe the categories and quantities you need. Ask for the current inventory sheet, exact commercial terms and documentation for specific products before deciding. Do not treat a general enquiry as a promise of stock or price.
